No one can forget the taste of mango, the king of fruits. It is hard to find someone who does not love eating mangoes. Full of flavour and nutrition, mango is very good for health.
It is rich in nutrients such as vitamins A, C and K, fibre, potassium, magnesium, folate and beta-carotene. Eating mangoes regularly in summer boosts immunity.
To enjoy mango, though, you should eat the fresh fruit. At most you can drink it as a sherbet or juice.
There are several foods you should avoid eating with mango or soon after it, or various physical problems can arise. Here are the foods not to eat.
Yoghurt
In summer many people eat sour yoghurt (tok doi) and ripe mango together. This combination is harmful for your stomach and can aggravate problems such as stomach pain, vomiting and bloating. So do not eat the two together.
Rice
Many people sit down to lunch with mango on their plate. Rice comes with spicy curry, and when you then eat mango it upsets digestion. So mango should never be eaten with spicy food.
Bitter gourd
Bitter gourd is one of the most popular summer vegetables and is very healthy in its own right. But mango and bitter gourd should not be eaten together, and bitter gourd should not be eaten even after mango, as it can cause vomiting.
Soft drinks
Never drink a soft drink right after eating mango. Any fizzy drink can cause indigestion and even gastric problems.
Water
Water should not be drunk right after eating any fruit, not just mango. It affects the digestive system and can cause diarrhoea. Drink water half an hour after eating fruit.
