Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will on Thursday open the first phase of the rehabilitation of the Muhuri-Kahua flood control, drainage and irrigation project in Feni, Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie told journalists on Wednesday, 30 September, while visiting the opening site at Ghatghar in Mirzanagar, Parshuram upazila.
After the suffering of the people of Feni in the devastating floods of 2024, the project was approved at a cost of Tk 1,542 crore, the minister said. The embankment will control floods and waterlogging and help agriculture, fisheries and the local economy.
The Muhuri-Kahua embankment is not just a piece of infrastructure, he said, but an important step to protect lives, property, farming and livelihoods in greater Noakhali and Cumilla, and the government is working to improve lives in the region through sustainable water management.
On the same visit the Prime Minister will also open several other programmes, including the distribution of farmer cards and family cards, the minister said.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, MP Rehana Akter Banu and senior ministry officials were present.
