Most people in the country are under economic pressure because of the coronavirus and floods, and Eid-ul-Azha is being held in the middle of it. On one hand, the coronavirus has taken away many people's ability to perform qurbani. On the other, many who have fallen into financial crisis because of the floods are keen to sell sacrificial animals. In this situation there are complaints that sellers are not getting fair prices, and many cannot sell their animals at all.

Against this backdrop, many farmers and traders who could not sell their sacrificial animals at a suitable price at the capital's markets are walking the streets of the capital to sell them.

From noon to afternoon on Thursday (30 July), many people were seen selling sacrificial goats in this roving way at Farmgate in the capital.

Farmers and traders said they could not sell their goats at the expected price at the livestock markets, so they were going round Farmgate and various lanes of the capital to sell them.

Md Chhabi, a trader who brought goats to the capital from Narsingdi, said he brought four goats three days ago and had sold two so far, at the same price he paid for them. Seeing that good prices were not coming, he brought the other two from the Nakhalpara livestock market to Farmgate, and is now trying to sell them by going round the Farmgate crossing and nearby streets and lanes.

"There's a shortfall this time, a shortfall for everyone," he said.

Another trader, Ratan Mia, said he came to Dhaka a few days ago with five or six goats and sold them by going round various markets and lanes. He later brought more goats and is now selling those on the move too.
