The second pilot phase of the farmer card (krishak card) programme begins on Thursday, 1 October. Citing the agriculture ministry, Desh Rupantor reports that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will launch it in the afternoon at the Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground in Feni.
Cards will be handed to 7,643 farmers at the event. Payment of input support to the cards of 100,047 farmers will also begin; each will receive Tk 2,500 to buy farm inputs.
The agriculture ministry says data on about 1.803 million farmers across the country have been collected so far, and 110,165 cards have been made.
In other words, of the roughly 1.8 million farmers whose details have been taken, a little over 100,000 have cards so far. The input support will be paid to the card of each farmer concerned.
