The concept, potential and practical use in Bangladesh of Islamic social finance were discussed at the Islamic Social Finance Meet-up 2026, held on Saturday at the DCC hall on Topkhana Road in Dhaka. The Avijatrik Foundation was the main patron, with Innova International and ANF Consultancy as sponsors.
The speakers were Mufti Ubaydur Rahman Hammad, Mufti Luqman Hasan, Maulana Fahim Faisal Al Masud and Sadiqur Rahman, who set out the basic ideas of Islamic social finance, why it is needed and its role in society and the economy.
Instruments such as zakat, waqf, sadaqah and qard al-hasan can play an effective part in poverty relief, education, health, humanitarian aid, employment and social development, they said, if they are used in a planned and institutional way.
Initiatives around the world were also discussed, along with the structures, procedures and a possible roadmap for making the sector more effective and institutional in Bangladesh.
A central theme was accountability, transparency and good governance: how proper management, accounting and oversight of the funds, and sound governance structures, can build public trust.
