The carcass of another wild elephant has been recovered from a hilly area of Eidgaon in Cox's Bazar.

It was recovered at noon on 21 November from a stream at Satghoria Para, next to Gajalia in the upazila's Islamabad. Md Anwar Hossain Sarkar, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Cox's Bazar North Forest Division, confirmed this to Jago News.

Citing local people, he said a group of woodcutters on their way to collect firewood at around 7am found the elephant dead in a stream about two and a half feet deep at the foot of a hill. The forest department recovered the carcass at noon after being informed.

Md Alauddin, officer of Rajghat beat under Fulchhari, told Jago News that the dead elephant was a male aged about one and a half to two years. It measured 7 feet long and 5 feet wide, with a trunk of two and a half feet.

Fulchhari range officer Faruk Ahmad Babul told Jago News that the elephant is initially believed to have died after slipping while coming down a slope.

Fulchhari ACF Dr Prantosh Chandra Roy told Jago News that livestock department officials had come from Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila and reported wounds on the elephant's body. The actual cause of death will be known after a post-mortem, he said.

Earlier, on 12 November, the carcass of an elephant was recovered at Chakaria in the Cox's Bazar North Forest Division. About three months before that, another elephant died after falling from a hill into a stream in the Gajalia area of Fulchhari.
