Chattogram Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL) has resumed urea production after a 12-day shutdown caused by a technical fault. The factory came back into production at about 3pm on Tuesday, 29 September, CUFL official AKM Selim Reza Chowdhury confirmed to Ajker Patrika.
According to factory sources, CUFL had restarted at about 6am on 15 September after six months idle because of a gas shortage. Two days later, at about 4am on 17 September, a technical problem stopped production again.
Engineers identified the fault and began repairs. After 12 days of work the plant was restarted on Tuesday afternoon.
CUFL managing director Mizanur Rahman said the technical problem has been fixed and he hopes there will be no further trouble.
Between six months without gas and 12 days of mechanical fault, the plant at Karnaphuli in Chattogram had produced urea for only two days this month before Tuesday's restart.
