Bangladesh presented its fisheries sector and investment potential at the 24th Busan International Seafood & Fisheries Expo in South Korea, held from 4 to 6 November. The Bangladesh embassy in Seoul took part with the Export Promotion Bureau, BSS reports.
The three-day expo at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1 drew 506 companies from 32 countries with about 1,300 booths. Globe Fisheries Ltd, a private company nominated by the bureau, showed Bangladeshi fisheries products.
A press release from the mission in Seoul said visitors and buyers showed keen interest in Bangladeshi seafood, particularly croakers, baim and shrimp.
A separate high-level seminar on 5 November was titled "Bangladesh: Your Emerging, High-Value Sourcing and Investment Partner in Seafood & Fisheries". It covered the country's aquatic resources and production potential, and investment openings in modernising deep-sea trawlers, cold-chain infrastructure, marine biotechnology and joint-venture processing plants.
The aim was to promote exports to South Korea and attract international buyers and investors. The mission expects it to strengthen business ties between the two countries and lift investment and export earnings in fisheries.
