The Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) has set out which districts face a high risk of nor'westers, hailstorms and severe lightning from Wednesday (15 March).
BRRI's forecast says there is a high risk of nor'westers, hailstorms and severe lightning in many districts from 15 to 19 March. Rain may begin in Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions on 15 March and continue until midday on 21 March. Some districts may get up to 150 millimetres of rain that week.
Earlier, in February 2022, 70 millimetres of rain caused widespread losses to farmers in the districts of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions.
