The pesh imam of a model mosque in Bangladesh can be paid an honorarium of Tk 20,000 a month, the muezzin Tk 15,000 and the khadim Tk 12,000 under the new Model Mosque Management Policy 2026. The honoraria of the khatib and security guards will be set by contract.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs issued the gazette notification on 24 September. It was signed by the ministry's secretary, Munshi Alauddin Al Azad.

Where a mosque can afford it, its committee may instead pay salaries on the grades set in the Mosque Management Policy 2025: grade 10 for the imam, grade 16 for the muezzin and grade 18 for the khadim, with the khatib and guards on contract. Staff may receive a festival allowance equal to the previous month's honorarium for Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha.

All staff, including the khatib, are to serve as custodians of the mosque. Committees at city, district and upazila level will run religious education at model mosques, which are to offer Quran lessons, adult education, hifz classes and maktabs for children.

Mosque management committees will be responsible for Friday prayers, the pre-khutbah and khutbah, the five daily prayers, the two Eid prayers and funeral prayers. In Ramadan they must appoint hafiz for tarawih and arrange their housing.
