Bangladesh will buy 155,000 tonnes of fertiliser from Canada, Russia and Saudi Arabia. The cabinet committee on government purchase approved four proposals from the Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday, 23 September, for imports under state-level and government-to-government (G2G) arrangements.

The meeting, held at the Secretariat, was chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will carry out the purchases.

Canada will supply 80,000 tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) in two lots at a cost of Tk 3,793,479,200. A further 35,000 tonnes of MOP will come from Russia for Tk 1,658,975,500.

Saudi Arabia will supply 40,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP), costing Tk 4,373,670,000.

In all, the four purchases will cost the government Tk 9,826,124,700, or about Tk 983 crore, which will be paid from the budget allocated for agricultural subsidies.
