India’s export authority APEDA has facilitated a trial export of 1.5 metric tonnes of kiwi from Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, to Dubai, AgroSpectrum reports. The consignment reached Dubai and was showcased at LuLu Hypermarket in Al Qusais.
The effort falls under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the branding “Kiwi: USP of Arunachal Pradesh”, with the state’s trade and horticulture departments as partners. Its aims are to introduce the state’s kiwi abroad, test consumer response and build market links for local growers.
High-altitude conditions in the state support kiwi with distinctive quality and flavour. The main varieties are Hayward, Monty, Allison and Bruno, with Hayward showing good demand internationally.
