AGRA has entered a series of partnerships with African and international organisations aimed at accelerating farmer prosperity across the continent, formalised in Kigali on 4 September 2026 as the Africa Food Systems Forum drew to a close. The partners are TradeMark Africa, the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
The initiative marks a shift, AGRA says, from building individual components of agricultural systems towards coordinating complementary capabilities around farmer prosperity. It is designed to address three interconnected traps identified in its recently released Impact, Learning and Foresight Report: the productivity trap that limits farmers' gains, the value trap that constrains value creation and returns across food systems, and the capability trap that weakens the institutions and systems needed to sustain transformation.
The partnerships will pursue three priorities: putting farmer prosperity at the centre of transformation; strengthening Africa's Knowledge Hub to generate and apply the intelligence needed for better decisions; and creating investable pathways that can mobilise capital at the scale Africa's food systems require.
'The next phase of agricultural transformation must move beyond isolated interventions,' AGRA president Alice Ruhweza told a press briefing. 'Therefore, we are calling for a Renewed Alliance that brings together capabilities across governments, businesses and researchers that turns decades of agricultural progress into lasting farmer prosperity.'
The alliance is not limited to the organisations that signed in Kigali: it is meant as a shared approach through which AGRA's wider network of partners can align their contributions around a common ambition for the continent's agrifood systems. AGRA has worked since 2006 with governments, NGOs and businesses to deliver solutions to small-scale farming enterprises.
