A legal notice has been sent to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and others concerned asking them not to hold a qurbani cattle market in the capital's Aftabnagar ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

The notice calls the leasing process announced on 4 April unlawful and asks for it to be suspended.

Lawyer Md Yunus Ali Akand sent the legal notice by post. He confirmed the matter to Jago News himself on 15 April.

The respondents named in the notice are the secretary of the Local Government Ministry, the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation and the city corporation's secretary (chief estate officer), the chairman of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) and the Dhaka deputy commissioner (DC).

The notice says that if steps are not taken on the cattle market within 72 hours of receiving it, legal action, namely a writ petition, will follow.

On 4 April, DSCC chief estate officer Kaiser Mohammad Farabi published a notice. The legal notice was sent seeking to suspend the effect of that notice and to have the south city's publication of a notice in place of the north city corporation declared illegal.

The notice says that holding a cattle and goat market is seriously harming the living environment of the residential area. Various kinds of waste from cattle and goats badly pollute the area. The main road and Jahirul Islam City (Aftabnagar) are also heavily damaged. As a result, the main road is full of potholes all year round, causing great difficulty for residents of Jahirul Islam City in getting about.

On 4 April, on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (Local Government Division), the estate department announced a tender through a lease notice signed by the DSCC chief estate officer. The tender mentioned holding a qurbani cattle market for five days, including the day of Eid-ul-Azha.
