Dr Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the interim government, has sent Haribhanga mangoes as a gift for the chief minister of India's Tripura and other important figures.

The 300 kg of mangoes were sent through Akhaura land port at 5:15pm on Thursday (10 July).

Every year the Bangladesh government sends gifts to the Tripura state government and important figures there. In return, Tripura's famous, juicy Queen variety pineapples come as a gift for the government.

The 300 kg of Haribhanga mangoes were sent in 60 cartons that afternoon. The chief adviser's gift was handed over from the foreign ministry, through an exporter named Cargo World Logistics, to a representative of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala.

Md Jahangir Alam, revenue officer at Akhaura land customs station, said the mangoes had been sent from the chief adviser's office to the Bangladesh High Commission in Agartala after all customs formalities were completed.

Besides mangoes and pineapples, the government every year allows hilsa to be exported for a limited period through the country's land ports as a gift for Indians during Durga Puja.
