Popular American YouTuber and streamer Darren Watkins has taken on the challenge of racing a cheetah, the fastest land animal. The 20-year-old streamer is known on YouTube as "Speed" or "IShowSpeed". He posted a video of the race on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday (3 January).

The video shows a fully grown cheetah standing on the racetrack as Watkins's opponent. Watkins enthusiastically announces: "Today I'm going to race a cheetah."

Something unexpected happened before the race began. The cheetah suddenly scratched Watkins's leg, and blood could be seen coming from it. Despite the injury, Watkins decided to go on with the challenge.

The two competitors stood at the starting line, and as soon as the cage was opened the cheetah surged forward at great speed. Watkins tried to keep up with all his strength.

Watkins was level with the cheetah in the early part of the race, but in the end the cheetah easily pulled ahead and reached the finish line. Viewers praised his courage and all-out effort.

The cheetah is faster than any other land animal, able to run at 100 to 120 kilometres an hour. By comparison, the highest human running speed is 44.72 kilometres an hour, reached by Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt when he set the 100-metre world record in 2009.

Watkins's YouTube channel now has more than 47.3 million followers, who wait for his daring and bizarre challenges. Through such videos he not only entertains but also shows viewers new dimensions of danger and courage.
