Dairy deserves attention all year, not only in June Dairy Month, argues Randy Romanski, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), in a signed op-ed. The views are the writer's own.

Romanski writes that dairy contributes $52.8 billion a year to Wisconsin's economy and is "the state's calling card". The season of county fairs and the State Fair builds towards World Dairy Expo in Madison, which he says brings people from around the world to Wisconsin.

Each year DATCP brings foreign delegations to the Expo, and its international agribusiness team expects to connect people from dozens of delegations with Wisconsin companies. He notes that the past five years have been the five highest on record for the state's agriculture, food and forestry exports.

Romanski urges continued investment in agriculture and partners that play to the state's strengths, "because agriculture is not just part of our past and present, but it's also part of our future".
