Rely on These 5 Superfoods to Stay Healthy in Winter

Five foods, from herbal tea to oranges and colourful winter vegetables, can help boost immunity during the cold season.

Crops

As soon as winter arrives, almost everyone suffers from colds, coughs or fever to some degree. Some people also experience lethargy, joint pain and other problems.

People with weaker immunity in particular fall ill with various diseases in winter. So it is important to include certain foods on your plate at this time that will help boost your immunity.

Tea

Organic teas such as chamomile, peppermint or green tea give an overnight energy boost this winter and can strengthen immunity.

Tea also works well to improve overall fitness. Adding cloves, lemon or ginger to tea can enhance both taste and health benefits.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin that reduces inflammation in the body; its strong anti-inflammatory properties help boost immunity.

Ginger's protection

Ginger helps increase blood circulation and keep the body warm in winter. It works well to prevent various kinds of inflammation and keep winter illnesses in check.

For example, it can help prevent colds, coughs and flu. You can mix ginger into hot water to drink as ginger tea, or eat it in soups and stews.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon can help improve blood circulation and control blood sugar levels. It also has antimicrobial properties that help fight winter illnesses.

You can add cinnamon to hot drinks such as hot chocolate or tea, or sprinkle cinnamon powder over oatmeal or yoghurt.

Colourful fruit and vegetables

Eat at least one orange a day in winter. This juicy fruit contains plenty of vitamin C, which boosts immunity.

It helps fight winter colds and flu and also aids hydration and detoxification. In addition, keep colourful winter vegetables such as beetroot and carrots on your plate regularly.
