Members of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team Bangladesh rescued a python unharmed from the Dakghar area of Wahedpur union in the upazila on Saturday (20 June) afternoon. It was later released deep in the forest by Bawachhara lake, within Baraiyadhala National Park.

Locals saw a python caught in a net put up around farmland in the Dakghar area and informed members of the rescue team, who came and took the snake away.

Md Naimul Islam Niloy, a member of the Wildlife and Snake Rescue Team in Bangladesh, said: "Hearing that a python was caught in a net, we rescued it unharmed. The snake was 12 feet long and weighed about 15 kg. It was later released deep in the forest by Bawachhara lake in Baraiyadhala National Park."

Barotakia beat officer Arun Roy said: "Md Naimul Islam Niloy of the rescue team told me he had rescued a python that had left the forest for a populated area and released it in the forest. As it is now the rainy season, it is thought the snake left the forest in search of food."
