In Mirpur, Dhaka, a house has been rented not for housing but for a vertical farm. Modelled on the "indoor farms" of developed countries, it grows a variety of vegetables.

Developed countries have moved much open-field farming into greenhouses, and inside four walls, soilless hydroponic vertical farming runs on mechanical infrastructure. In the same way, fresh green vegetables are now grown indoors in Mirpur on upward structures with artificial light, air and nutrients.

Television and social media are bringing world agriculture into one line. One of the entrepreneurs, Parveen Akter, says they entered this modern farming after learning through various media.

The one-year-old venture of farming in a rented house has already achieved commercial success. A glass-enclosed growing area using natural light has also been built on the roof, pointing to many more possibilities.
