A three-storey house with a roof of only 1,300 square feet, yet there is barely room to move among the plants. This dense plant family has been built by Meherunnesa Maya. Its density matches her name: she has boundless affection (maya) for plants, discarding none and neglecting none.

Loving plants has built a joint family of fruit, crops and greenery, with trees pressed together in the small space, spreading their branches. Meherunnesa says she has kept up farming because of her mother's inspiration.

From the roof, the eye falls on the house's wide courtyard. Although inside Dhaka, Uttarkhan was until recently a village under a union parishad. Now within Dhaka North City Corporation, a house with such a wide courtyard is truly rare.
