A man in India's Uttar Pradesh has claimed that his wife turns into a snake at night and tries to bite him. The strange complaint has stunned the administrator and officials of Sitapur district. He has already submitted a written application to the district magistrate.

The incident is from Lodhsa village in the Mahmudabad area of Sitapur district. On the local Samadhan Diwas, a day when ordinary people take complaints about electricity, roads or rations to the district magistrate, the man, named Meraj, appeared before the district magistrate and said: "Sir, my wife Nasimun turns into a snake at night and chases me to bite me."

Meraj alleges that his wife has tried to kill him several times, but each time he woke up and escaped. "My wife tortures me mentally," he added. "I fear that one night or another she may kill me."

Once the story came out it spread on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). One user joked: "Who knows who else she is biting!"

Another commented: "Have you hidden her nagmani?" Someone else suggested: "Become a cobra yourself."

Another wrote in jest that the man was lucky to have found the Sridevi of "Nagina" in his own home, a reference to the actress who played the shape-shifting snake woman in the popular 1986 Bollywood film Nagina.

The district magistrate, however, did not take the matter lightly and ordered an investigation, asking the Mahmudabad sub-divisional magistrate and the police to begin a probe, NDTV reported.
