The United States Department of Agriculture began contacting more than 90,000 producers across the country in May for the June Agricultural Survey, the questionnaire that establishes American crop acreage and grain stock levels as of 1 June 2026.

“The June Agricultural Survey is one of the most significant and recognized surveys NASS conducts,” said Joseph L. Parsons, administrator of the National Agricultural Statistics Service. “When producers take part, they help ensure that the nation's agricultural reporting remains accurate, transparent, and free from speculation.”

Growers are asked for planted and harvested acreage, including the area under biotechnology varieties, and for the grain they hold in store. Returns can be made online, by telephone or by post.

“We recognize that this is a busy time for farmers, but the information they provide helps U.S. agriculture remain viable and capable,” Parsons said. “I urge them to respond to these surveys and thank them for their participation.”

The returns feed a long list of publications. NASS said they would appear first in the annual Acreage and quarterly Grain Stocks reports on 30 June, and then in its monthly and annual Crop Production reports, the Small Grains Summary, the annual Farms and Land in Farms and Land Values reports, the livestock reports covering cattle, sheep and goats and hogs and pigs, and the department's monthly World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates.

That last publication is the reason a survey of American farmers is read in Dhaka. The World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates are among the documents grain traders price against, and the acreage and stock figures gathered in June are part of what goes into them.
