US hop stocks fall 9 percent as the industry works down its carryover

USDA NASS put 1 September hop stocks at 105 million pounds, down from 116 million a year earlier and 136 million in 2024, with growers and dealers holding 86 million and brewers 19 million.

US hop inventories fell sharply over the past year, USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service reports: stocks on 1 September totalled 105 million pounds, down 9 percent from 116 million pounds in 2025 and well below the 136 million pounds of 1 September 2024.

Growers and dealers held 86 million pounds and brewers 19 million pounds. The figures include the dry-bale equivalent of hops held as pellets or extract; NASS surveys growers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington, dealers nationwide and the largest US brewers.

All Ag News says the decline reflects an industry still working through inventories built up over earlier crops, and that lower stocks can bring supply closer to brewers' demand, though the report gives no prices or usage forecasts. The next stocks report will show how fast carryover is being drawn down before the 2027 season.
