A male wild elephant has died in the remote hills of Ukhia in Cox's Bazar. The elephant was about 40 years old. Its body was recovered on the afternoon of Thursday, 13 March.

Md Monirul Islam, assistant conservator of forests for Cox's Bazar South, said the body was recovered from the remote Jomchhara hills of Ukhia. Initial information suggests the elephant vomited blood, and traces of vomit were seen along about one and a half kilometres of hill path. It may have died from the vomiting.

He said the elephant was buried in the evening. The cause of death will be known in detail once the post-mortem report arrives.
