Tourist Police are running a vegetable-growing and tree-planting programme simultaneously across the country. Tourist Police chief Additional IGP Mohammad Ali Mia opened the programme virtually from his office premises on Sunday (31 July).

That day he sowed seeds of various vegetables and planted jackfruit saplings on fallow, unused land at his office. Vegetable seeds and saplings were then planted, one after another, on the premises of every Tourist Police office.

Mohammad Ali Mia said: "Considering the global situation, and in line with the Prime Minister's directive, we are growing vegetables and planting trees on all fallow and unused land of Bangladesh Police.

"The programme will run for a month. I have already instructed region superintendents of police (SPs) and zone in-charges across the country to grow vegetables and plant trees on Tourist Police's fallow land. To raise public awareness, we are the first in the country to take up such a programme simultaneously."

Mohammad Abdul Halim, SP of the Tourist Police media wing, said that on the instructions of Additional IGP Mohammad Ali Mia, follow-up was being carried out on the planting and care of vegetables and fruit trees on fallow land in all regions and zones.

Tourist Police DIG Md Ilias Sharif and all senior officers and members were present at the opening.
