An elderly male elephant has died in the remote hills of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar. Members of the Teknaf forest department recovered the dead elephant at around 3pm on 30 March.

Sarwar Alam, divisional forest officer of the Cox's Bazar South Forest Division, confirmed the matter.

He said: "We received news that a wild elephant aged 70-75 had died of old age in the remote Leda hills of Hnila union. Members of the Teknaf beat then went to the spot. The elephant is 11 feet long and 8 feet tall."

After a post-mortem, the carcass will be buried in a pit dug at a safe place inside the hills, the divisional forest officer said.
