Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman planted a tree at Zia Udyan in the capital to mark the party's 48th founding anniversary.

He planted the tree on the morning of Tuesday, 1 September, after laying wreaths and offering prayers at the graves of BNP founder President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Those present included BNP standing committee member and MP Gayeshwar Chandra Roy; Home Minister and standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed; Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister and standing committee member Dr Moyeen Khan; standing committee member and reserved-seat MP Selima Rahman; Social Welfare Minister and standing committee member Dr AZM Zahid; and BNP national standing committee member Aman Ullah Aman.

Also present were BNP joint secretaries general Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel and Advocate Abdus Salam; Water Resources Minister and joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie; Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad and BNP vice-chairman Nurul Islam Moni; Fisheries and Livestock Minister and BNP publicity secretary Salahuddin Tuku; Minister of State for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam; and Minister of State for Youth and Sports and convener of Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Aminul Islam.

Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal president Abdul Monayem Munna and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib were among others present.
