A baghair fish weighing three maunds (120 kg) arrived at the Lalbazar fish market in Sylhet city. It was brought in the morning from Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet and bought by fish trader Anwar Hossain.

The fish was put on sale in the morning at the Bandarbazar-Lalbazar fish market in the city. On hearing that a 120 kg baghair had arrived, crowds gathered from the morning. The seller asked Tk 2,20,000 for the fish, but when he did not get the price he wanted, he cut it up and began selling it by the kilogram at around 2pm.

At about 6.45pm, Golzar Ahmed, general secretary of the Lalbazar Fish Traders' Cooperative Society, said the baghair was being sold at Tk 2,000 a kg. About 90 kg had been sold so far, and about 6-7 kg of fish and the head remained. The head would weigh about 20-22 kg.

Fish trader Anwar Hossain said the fish was caught in fishermen's nets in the Kushiyara river at Beanibazar late on Wednesday night. He bought it when it was brought to Lalbazar in Sylhet for sale on Thursday morning.

He said many people wanted to buy the fish but he did not get the price he wanted. Unable to sell it whole, he cut it up and sold it at Tk 2,000 a kg.

Nazmul Hossain, a resident of Baghbari in the city who bought two kilograms, said he had bought two kilograms of baghair at Lalbazar at Tk 2,000 a kg, and expected the fish to be tasty.
