Sylhet's agricultural picture is changing. Where most land once lay fallow, efforts have begun to bring all farmland under cultivation. Across the Sylhet region, all kinds of farming can now be seen, and commercial farms are becoming promising ventures for local people.
From four cows
One such entrepreneur is Abdus Sattar Lovelu of Mobarakpur, Khadimpara, Sylhet Sadar. Although involved in the family business, he wanted to keep the farming he inherited from his father, and in 2016 he started a dairy farm with just four cows. It later became a commercial dairy farm.
Over 200 cattle
The farm now has more than 200 cattle, including 70 milking cows, about 100 pregnant cows, and a number of calves and bulls. The young entrepreneur has invested about 60 to 65 million taka to build this large farm of local and foreign cows.
