Crocodiles, a tokay gecko and birds seized from various places have been released at Karamjal in the Sundarbans.

The animals were released at around 4pm on Wednesday 28 December. The Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division in Khulna had rescued them in November from Madaripur, Jashore and other areas.

Md Azad Kabir, officer in charge of the Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Centre under the Sundarbans East Forest Division, said the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division rescued two crocodiles from a fish farm in Madaripur and from JS Garden in Jashore. It also rescued a tokay gecko, a heron, 11 purple swamphens, a black kite and two kingfishers from various areas. On Wednesday the animals were released inside the forest and into waterbodies.

Forest Department biodiversity officer Tanmoy Ashcharya and Md Azad Kabir were present at the release.
