A tiger has been seen on the foot trail, a wooden walkway, at the Harbaria tourist centre in the Sundarbans. Forest guards spotted it on the trail inside the forest on Saturday morning (11 October). They began shouting, and eventually the tiger stepped off the trail and went deep into the forest.

Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, divisional forest officer of the Sundarbans East Forest Division, said forest guards on regular patrol saw the tiger on the centre's foot trail on Saturday morning. When they shouted, it went back into the forest after a while.

He said tigers already roam freely in the Harbaria part of the forest and are often seen by the Harbaria pond, but this time one was seen on the foot trail. A tiger had never been seen on a foot trail like this before, he said.

Tigers are, however, often being seen at various places in the forest, which means their number is rising, he added.
