A haircut on the pavement is one of the most familiar sights in Bangladesh, and despite the spread of modern salons the itinerant barbers survive, from village markets to city back streets. A photo story by bdnews24.com visits a group of them at Aganagar in Keraniganj, on the edge of Dhaka.
About ten barbers set up makeshift stalls at the roadside in Aganagar, beside the Buriganga river, and many local people come to them for an inexpensive haircut and shave. A haircut and beard trim there costs Tk 60 to 100.
The pictures show the work going on in the open on plain chairs; keeping up with the times, the barbers now use trimmers as well as scissors. In one frame a customer checks his newly trimmed beard, in another the barbers sit waiting for customers.
