A fishing cat kept at the Bonnyoprani Seba Foundation (wildlife care foundation) in Srimangal, Moulvibazar, has given birth to a new cub. The fishing cat gave birth inside its cage on the morning of 19 November.

Sajal Dev, director of the Bonnyoprani Seba Foundation, Srimangal, said the cub was born at around 10am. This is the fourth time the fishing cat has given birth, and it has had six cubs in all over the four litters.

Wildlife expert Monirul H Khan, a professor of zoology at Jahangirnagar University, said fishing cats behave much like jungle cats but are larger, close to the size of a dog. They are found to some extent throughout Bangladesh, but mostly in wetland areas. They usually hunt at night, and their main food is fish, frogs, crabs, rats and birds.
