Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation has rescued a huge python about 18 feet long from a residential area of Sreemangal in Moulvibazar.
The snake was rescued on the afternoon of 21 July from beside the Pul Bandhan Community Centre in Sreemangal upazila.
How it was found
A local man, Washim Mia, saw the huge python while walking along the road beside the community centre. When word spread, panic broke out among local people and some wanted to kill the snake.
Some concerned residents then informed Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation. The foundation's director Swapan Dev Sajal and environmental activists Rajdeep Dev Deep and Babul Robidas rescued the python unharmed and took it away. It was later handed over to the Sreemangal range office of the forest department.
Swapan Dev Sajal said the rescued python was about 18 feet long and weighed an estimated 30 to 35 kg.
Sreemangal forest range officer Md Nazmul Islam said the python would be released into the forest.
