An 18-foot python has been rescued from the yard of a house in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar district. The snake was found on Thursday, 17 September, in the compound of union parishad (UP) member Kadar Ali at Lamua village in Kalapur union No. 5.

Residents said they spotted the huge snake in Kadar Ali's yard and alerted the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation. The foundation's director, Swapan Deb Sajal, and environmental activist Rajdeep Deb Dip reached the spot quickly and secured the animal. Chautali beat officer Subrata Sarkar was present during the rescue.

Md Kazi Nazmul Haque, range officer of the Bangladesh Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, said the foundation had handed the 18-foot python over to the Forest Department in healthy condition. It will be released in Lawachara National Park in Kamalganj upazila.

The rescue involved three parties from start to finish: the villagers who found the snake, a non-government wildlife rescue group, and the Forest Department that will return it to the forest. Because residents went straight to the wildlife foundation, the animal was recovered unharmed and is going back to protected habitat.

For farming households in forest-edge villages, the case is a reminder that a large snake in a yard, cattle shed or poultry house is best reported to the Forest Department or a local wildlife rescue group rather than handled alone. That course protects the people and the animal alike, and in this instance it ended with a python heading for Lawachara rather than being killed.
