The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation has rescued a venomous monocled cobra in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar.

The snake was rescued on Friday night (18 September) from the home of Uttam Acharya in the quarters next to Kalighat post office in Sreemangal.

According to local sources, the family panicked after seeing a snake in Uttam Acharya's home. On receiving the news, the foundation's director Swapan Deb Sajal and environmental activist Rajdip Deb Deep went to the house and identified it as a monocled cobra, a highly venomous snake. They then caught the snake unharmed.

The snake was later handed over to the Sreemangal forest range office.

Confirming the matter, Kazi Nazmul Islam, range officer of the Sreemangal Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, said the snake would be released into the forest.
