The Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation has rescued a green pit viper from inside a banana bunch at a wholesale shop in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar.

The snake was recovered on the afternoon of 17 May from trader Karim Mia's banana, pineapple and lemon wholesale shop at Sreemangal Natun Bazar.

Eyewitnesses said workers at the shop spotted a snake inside a bunch of bananas that afternoon and alerted the foundation. Its director, Swapan Deb Sajal, and environmental activist Rajdeep Deb Deep went to the shop and found the snake hiding inside the bunch.

After about 10 minutes of effort the snake was recovered unharmed and handed over to the range officer of the Sreemangal forest department.

Sreemangal range officer Md Nazmul Islam confirmed the rescue and said the snake would be released into the forest.
