A man named Md Ismail (55) died of cardiac arrest after climbing a tree to pick mangoes.
The incident happened on the morning of 22 May at Temuhani in the Char Khoaj area of Sadar union in Sonagazi upazila, Feni. He was buried in the family graveyard after his janaza in the afternoon.
Md Ismail was the son of Md Mostafa of Moktar Bari in Charaitkandi village of Sadar union. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
Sonagazi Sadar union parishad chairman Umme Ruma confirmed the death to Jago News.
How he died
Ismail's brother Nur Alam said his brother climbed a tree belonging to local shopkeeper Azizul Haque at around 9:30am to pick mangoes. At one point, while up the tree, he died of cardiac arrest and remained caught in the tree. When locals heard nothing from him for a long time, they brought him down and took him to the upazila health complex, where the doctor in the emergency department declared him dead.
Arafat Hossain, community medical officer in the emergency department of the upazila health complex, said the man, Md Ismail, had died before he was brought to hospital.
Sudip Roy Palash, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi model police station, said: "We have received news of the death of an elderly man in the village. Locals said he died while picking mangoes from a tree."
