A woman in Mahbubnagar district of India's Telangana state has filed a complaint with the police against a local bakery after finding a snake inside a snack.

According to local sources, the woman, Srisail, had bought an egg puff and a curry puff from an Iyengar bakery in Jadcherla municipality. When she got home and opened the curry puff to eat with her children, she saw a snake inside.

She went straight back to the bakery to report it, but the owner reportedly responded indifferently and gave irrelevant explanations. Angered, Srisail and her family went to Jadcherla police station and lodged a formal complaint.

Separately, a major political row has broken out in India after several city corporations ordered slaughterhouses and meat shops to close on Independence Day. Several leaders from both the opposition and ruling parties said the move interfered with people's food habits and went against freedom.

Asaduddin Owaisi, the Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief, sharply criticised the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) order to close all slaughterhouses and meat shops on 15 and 16 August (Independence Day and Janmashtami).
