An Air India Express B737-800 from Calicut airport in Kerala, India, landed in Dubai on Saturday and the passengers disembarked without incident. But a snake had been hiding on board.

The authorities noticed the snake only after the plane landed in Dubai. According to a report by the news agency PTI, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered an investigation.

A senior official of India's civil aviation regulator said the snake was found in the plane's cargo hold after it landed at Dubai airport, and the fire service was called immediately.

Everyone is asking how the snake got into the cargo hold. The official said it is initially thought to have happened through the negligence of airport staff. The incident will be investigated and the DGCA will take appropriate action, he said.

No comment could be obtained from an Air India Express spokesperson, and it is not known exactly how many passengers were on board.
