Sitesh Ranjan Deb, founder chairman of the Bangladesh Wildlife Service Foundation in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar, has died.

He breathed his last at his home in Sreemangal at 9am on Tuesday, 14 July. He was 75.

Confirming the death, his grandson Rajdwip Deb said Sitesh Ranjan's condition suddenly worsened in the morning. Family members set off to take him to hospital, but he died on the way.

Sitesh Ranjan had long suffered from diabetes and other age-related complications and was being treated at home. His funeral rites were held at around 2pm in his home village of Noagaon.

A familiar face of the country's wildlife conservation movement, Sitesh Ranjan Deb was also known as "Sitesh Babu". For decades he rescued, treated and rehabilitated injured, sick and endangered wild animals.
