From first light, the wholesale cucumber market at Charbardhangachha in Ullapara, Sirajganj, is busy with farmers washing, heaping and bagging fresh cucumbers bound by truck for Dhaka and the rest of the country.

A Prothom Alo photo story visits the wholesale cucumber market at Charbardhangachha in Ullapara, Sirajganj. From before dawn, farmers and traders are busy washing cucumbers picked fresh from the fields, piling them up and packing them into sacks, while wholesalers' calls fill the market yard.

After local demand is met, the cucumbers travel by truck to Dhaka and other parts of the country. A maund (about 40 kg) currently sells for Tk 950 to 1,000 at the market. The photographs were taken at the Charbardhangachha market.
