A man named Golam Mostafa, 47, has been seriously injured after being bitten by a pig that swam across a river from the Sundarbans into a human settlement.

The incident happened on the afternoon of Saturday, 10 June, in Jatindranagar village next to the Sundarbans in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira. He is the son of Jamat Ali Mistri of the same village and has been admitted to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, assistant conservator of forests for the Satkhira range, confirmed the matter to Jagonews.

He said the pig swam across the river from the Sundarbans into Jatindranagar village, either after losing its way or in search of food. When it tried to enter a house, it bit the householder who tried to stop it. After being alerted by local people, officials caught the pig and released it back into the forest. The injured man is being treated at the forest department's expense.
