Ever Tried a Spicy Shrimp Pickle? Here's the Recipe

A spicy shrimp pickle, made at home with a handful of ingredients, makes a different accompaniment to rice or khichuri.

Vegetables

Bengalis have a special fondness for eating pickle with khichuri or rice. Most people have tasted olive, green chilli and mango pickles of various kinds, but have you tried a spicy pickle made with shrimp? It tastes a little different, but it goes wonderfully with rice or khichuri.

This tasty dish can be made at home with just a few ingredients, and a spicy shrimp pickle can also lift the meal when entertaining guests.

Method

Wash the shrimp well and marinate for 15 minutes with turmeric, chilli powder and salt. Heat oil in a karai and fry the shrimp until lightly golden, then take them out. In the same oil, add fenugreek, mustard seed or panch phoron for tempering.

Next add chopped ginger and garlic and fry. When the oil separates from the spices, add the fried shrimp, salt to taste, ground spices and vinegar. Stir well and take off the heat.

When the pickle has cooled completely, store it in a glass jar. Make sure the oil floats on top of the pickle, which helps it keep for a long time.
