Four people have been injured in attacks by an Indian wild boar in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj. The incidents took place at midday on Thursday, 2 April, in Binadpur union and in Kamat village of Shyampur union.

The injured are Jony, son of Monirul Islam; Dalim, son of Mofizuddin; and Muli, son of Abdul Hakim, all of Kamat village in Shyampur union; and Nasir Uddin of Hadinagar village.

Shahidul Islam, a local resident of Shyampur union, said that at midday Nasir Uddin of Baro Hadinagar village was cycling home from Binadpur bazar with grass for his goats. As he passed through a mango orchard, a wild boar suddenly attacked him, leaving him seriously injured. Locals rescued him and admitted him to Chapainawabganj District Hospital, where he is being treated.

Elsewhere, in Binodpur union, several workers were spraying mangoes in an orchard when the wild boar attacked, injuring three of them.

Locals said the boar's body had cat-like features and that it comes from India. When villagers chased it, it fled quickly and could not be found afterwards.

Dr Kamal Uddin, Shibganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said the injured were given first aid. One of them was in a serious condition and was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Shibganj Upazila Agriculture Officer Nayan Mia said wild boars are attacking crop fields in the border area and damaging various crops. After dusk, Indian wild boars enter the country and go back to the forests of India before dawn. Farmers are staying up at night to guard their fields, and the matter has been reported to higher authorities, he said.
