Assistant commissioner (land) Toufiq Aziz has rescued and freed 120 caged red-headed parakeets in Shibganj, Chapainawabganj. Bird trapper Rabiul Islam was fined Tk 10,000.

The birds were rescued in a drive in the Kamat area of Binodpur union in the upazila on the afternoon of 8 September. The fined man, Rabiul Islam, lives in Kamat village of Binodpur union.

Assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate Toufiq Aziz said: "On a tip-off we learned that 120 red-headed birds were being kept caged at the home of Rabiul Islam in the Kamat area. We then raided the place and rescued the birds, which have been released. Rabiul Islam has been fined Tk 10,000 for his involvement."

Wildlife inspector Jahangir Kabir, wildlife supervisor Sarowar Hossain Khan and members of Shibganj police station were present.
