Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is sending 1,200 kg (240 cartons) of seasonal mangoes as a goodwill gift to Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of India's West Bengal. The mangoes will be sent to Kolkata through Benapole port in Jashore at 11am on Monday, 12 June.

Abu Muhammad Faisal, assistant secretary (Protocol-2) at Bangladesh's foreign ministry, confirmed the matter.

In a letter he said the gift mangoes from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would go to Kolkata through Benapole port on Monday. They will be received at the port by Sikder Md Ashrafur Rahman, head of chancery (political) at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, and later handed over to Indian representatives.

Abu Muhammad Faisal also said the gift is a token of the golden chapter Bangladesh-India bilateral relations are passing through. Bangladesh's prime minister has sent mangoes to Mamata before. He said the gift would further strengthen ties between the people of the two countries and play a big role in improving relations.

Last year too, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent gift mangoes by truck to Mamata Banerjee and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
