Students and teachers can benefit in several ways from a rooftop farm at a school. One successful example is Bibi Mariam Girls' High School in Narayanganj, where everyone can be closely involved in farming and enjoy fresh flowers and crops.
Since 2012
The rooftop farm at the school on Isa Khan Road in Narayanganj town began in 2012, and the green garden has been growing on the huge 8,000 square foot roof ever since. As plants, flowers and fruit were added, the idea developed.
A practical classroom
It is now the school's practical field for botany as well as a complete garden, a piece of green landscape. Headteacher Shafiul Alam Khan said others connected with the school have also become aware of rooftop farming.
For the school's 1,500 students, trees, nature and farming are now very familiar.
