The district administration in Satkhira has announced a calendar setting the mango picking dates for this season. Under the calendar, Himsagar mangoes can be harvested from 15 May.

Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akhter made the announcement at a meeting in the deputy commissioner's conference room on Sunday afternoon (26 April).

Present at the meeting were Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) deputy director agriculturist Saiful Islam, additional deputy director agriculturist Iqbal Ahmed and mango growers' association leader Liaqat Ali, among others.

Under the calendar, local varieties including Gopalbhog, Gobindabhog, Golapkhas, Baishakhi and Bombai can be picked from 5 May to 26 May. Himsagar and Khirsapat can be harvested from 15 May, Langra from 27 May and Amrapali from 5 June.

DAE deputy director Saiful Islam said the picking dates for Langra and Amrapali had been brought forward somewhat at growers' request, but he expected the mangoes to mature within the set times.

He added that the administration would keep strict watch to stop immature mangoes being picked and marketed.
